Alumni assemble to learn about real estate trends

Ransom Everglades alumni gathered for a roundtable discussion on Miami real estate trends led by three prominent RE alumni with decades of experience in the field. John Shubin ’79, founder and CEO of The Euclid Group, directed a wide-ranging conversation in the Posner Lecture Hall on Feb. 15 with Rudy Prio Touzet ’76, founding partner and CEO of Banyan Street Capital, and Warren Weiser ’77, partner and founder of CREC Capital.
The trio explored a number of topics: changes in the South Florida market; markets to watch in Florida; the recent downturn; the consequences of rising insurance and construction costs; and more. All agreed that the overall growth in Miami’s market since their earliest days in real estate had been jaw-dropping.

“The Miami market is just phenomenal,” Weiser said. “What’s happened here is beyond belief … I don’t know if anyone could have predicted it would grow to this extent, and become the mecca that it is … We’re fortunate to play in this market.”

Shubin noted that’s Miami’s maturation as a city has helped it weather the unavoidable cycle of booms and busts. “We’ve evolved as a more advanced economy,” he said. “It’s not just an economy based on selling home sites and tourism … but I think we have a much more grounded economy than we have ever had.”

Allan Serviansky ’99 and Javier Henriquez ’10 introduced the panel to open the event inside the Fernandez STEM Center and sponsored by the RE Alumni Real Estate Group. Serviansky explained that they founded the group “to bring together a community of people interested in real estate and with a connection to Ransom Everglades.” The three panelists agreed that their RE connections had served them from their earliest days in the industry.

“Take advantage of it,” Prio Touzet said. “It’s the most remarkable community, and for the most part everyone’s been helpful. That’s what’s been special.”
