Ransom Everglades' middle school math team won first place in the annual MathCounts team competition at Miami Dade College on Feb. 24, as three RE mathletes finished in the top four individually. Joshie Khohayting '28 earned second place; Alex Tevelow '28, third;and Daniel Li '28 finished fourth in the field of 219 students representing 29 teams. With the title, Ransom Everglades easily advanced to the March 29 Florida State Competition in Orlando.
Sofiya Dewan '29, who finished 12th overall, and Maxie Wu '28, who was 13th, will join Khohayting, Tevelow and Li at the state championship. They will travel with head coach Jess Merrick, who was nominated for MathCounts Coach of the Year in Florida.
Maya Lee-Schofield '30 finished 14th overall, and four other RE students finished in the top 25 percent of competitors: Israel Garcia '28, Esha Nagalla '29, Yifan Shen '30 and Axel Sirinyan '29.
