Roherdy Garcia
Essay by Lucia Rose Dahn ’23, portrait by Jules Murray ’22
Mrs. Roherdy Garcia’s two children, Jose and Miguel, received their education in Miami and pursued their studies at FIU and Pace University. Miguel is an Afghanistan war veteran.
Roherdy Garcia was born in Cuba and immigrated to Miami with her two sons in 1994. Mrs. Garcia is now a proud grandmother of three grandchildren. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, life in Cuba became more difficult and Cuba entered a period characterized by shortages of food, oil and other necessities. Mrs. Garcia is grateful for the opportunity to escape Fidel Castro’s regime and arrive in the United States, a land which offered her the opportunity to overcome challenges and establish a new life. She has been a part of the Ransom Everglades staff since 2008. At RE, she helps prepare food and manage the deli and salad bars at the upper school. She works diligently to cook for the RE community and derives great satisfaction from nourishing students and seeing them enjoy their food. She channels boundless enthusiasm and energy into her work and is thankful for the opportunity to interact with students, staff and faculty daily in the dining hall.
In her 14 years at Ransom Everglades, Mrs. Garcia has enjoyed meeting new students each year, observing their progress through high school, and she has stayed in contact with several students after their graduation. Her two children, Jose and Miguel, were educated in Miami and pursued their studies at FIU and Pace University. The value of service to the community runs in her family and her son, Miguel, is an Afghanistan war veteran. We appreciate Mrs. Garcia’s family service to RE and to the larger community and continue to be inspired by her contagious positive attitude and smile.
