Athletics
Lessons for life
Athletics has been an integral part of a student’s education at Ransom Everglades throughout the school’s history. Head coaches are teachers and educators, and many are part of the academic faculty. Our goal is to foster a student's passion for sports while instilling leadership skills, teamwork and a lifelong work ethic.
We don’t recruit athletes. We build programs. The middle and upper schools field 76 teams for boys and girls in 17 sports. More than half of our students play on at least one team every year. Some 15 percent of Raider athletes go on to play at the collegiate level.
No matter their next steps in life, student-athletes depart Ransom Everglades with skills and values that help them lead and thrive.

Raider baseball moves to 2-0
Junior Tino Pena '26 picked up the victory striking out eight batters over three innings as the Raiders moved to 2-0 on the season. Senior Mason Lastra '25 sent one over the fence for his first homerun of the season as the Raider bats continued their torrid start to the season. Junior Juan Velazco '26 added four hits, three RBI's and four runs scored including three doubles. In total the Raiders combined for 19 hits in 33 at bats on the evening in a 19-0 route of Pinecrest North Prep Academy. Raiders advance to regional semifinal in penalty kicks
In front of a large crowd the Raiders dug deep and found a way to defeat Carrollton in the class 2A regional quarterfinals to keep their season alive. Despite an early deficit, the Raiders controlled the game and put consistent pressure on the Carrollton defense. Late in the first half junior Avery Almazan '26 played a perfect ball into the box which junior Jojo James '26 converted to provide the Raiders the equalizing goal at the half. The second half saw the Raiders continue to control the game but unable to take the lead. Penalty kicks would ensue and successful attempts by juniors Jojo James '26, Stella Colombo '26, Olivia Geller '26 and sophomore Natalia Gupta '27 followed by two crucial stops by senior goalkeeper Addison Pollock '25 propelled the Raiders to victory. With the win the Raiders advance to the regional semifinal where they will host #6 seed St. Andrews on Friday night at Robert E. Walker Field. Kick off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.Read More -
Raiders roll in home opener
Senior Reid Rosenberg '25 got off to an impressive start with six goals and one assist to lead the Raiders in a 13-1 victory over Miami Country Day to move to 1-0 on the season. Freshman Liam Segal '28 and sophomore Winston Hosford '27 both scored twice in the victory. The Raiders received terrific goalie play from junior Jackson Crowley '26 who stopped all eight shots to earn his first career shutout. From the opening whistle the Raiders dominated play with constant pressure on the Spartan defense resulting in nine first half goals. From their the team would cruise to victory behind strong midfield play. The Raiders will get back on the practice field today as they look to go 2-0 when they host Coral Reef High School on Wednesday evening at Robert E. Walker Field. RE Sailing claims first place in major regatta held at RE
The Ransom Everglades varsity sailing team finished in first place in a major sailing competition that drew 18 schools from around the southeastern U.S. and Caribbean to the Anderson Watersports Center on February 1. Griggs Diemar '25 and Amelia Lazarus '25 led from start to finish in the A division of the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association South Points #3, and Sebastian van de Kreeke '25 and Sofia Rhone-Fernandez '26 dominated the B division.Read More

Raiders win girls' soccer district championship
With the district title on the line, Johanna James '26 broke a scoreless tie in overtime and fellow junior Stella Colombo '26 added another goal to give the Raiders a thrilling 2-0 victory over True North Classical Academy at Robert E. Walker Field to claim the Class 2A District 15 championship. Goalkeeper Addison Pollock '25 set the stage for the victory with a shutout performance.Read More -
Fall sport student-athletes win all-county recognition
Read MoreTwo middle school student-athletes were among the Ransom Everglades fall sports athletes who earned first-team all-county recognition from the Miami Herald. Cole Durham '29 and Axel Monssoh '30 helped the boys' golf team win a district title and finish 11th at the state championship under coach Dave Ragan, who was named the Miami-Dade Boys’ Golf Coach of the Year. Volleyball star Addison Pollock '25 and swimmer Kiera Rampersad '25 also won first-team honors in the Herald rankings.

Boys soccer advances to district semifinal

Sophomores Lucas Piedrahita '27, and Jasper Frankel '27 combined for four goals and three assists in a strong performance. The Raiders also received goals from senior Luca Falero '25, freshman Sebastian Daes '28 and juniors JJ Candib '26 and Bryan West '26. Girls basketball earns seventh win of season
Sophomore Jane Perdigon '27 led the way in a dominating defensive performance with a season high seven steals, five deflections and 10 points as the Raiders rolled to a 55-27 victory over Terra Environmental. Freshman Nica Rosenberg '28 added fifteen points on six of nine shooting including two three pointers. From the opening tip the Raiders came out on fire with 14 straight points. Back to back three pointers later in the first half from senior Taylor Smith '25 and sophomore Holly Clement '27 pushed the lead 20 points. The second half saw contributions from a pair of freshman Kyla Harris '28 and Penelope Gavin '28 who combined for ten points and four rebounds. Girls soccer wins big on senior night
Junior Olivia Geller '26 led the way with a three goal performance as the Raiders rolled to a 4-0 victory over MAST Academy to improve to 9-4-2 on the year. Junior Jojo James '26 rounded out the scoring for Raiders with a goal of her own and Junior Stella Colombo '26 added three assists. Defensively, the Raiders were terrific with strong performances from junior Avery Almazan '26, and underclassman Andi Lamar '28 and Ella Balestra '27. It was a special night as the Raiders honored seniors Anna Lavernia '25, Casey Manno '25, Lindsay Ng '25, Addison Pollock '25 and Didi Carvalho '25. Senior Jorgie Gomez '25 led the way with 15 points, five rebounds, and one steal as the Raiders used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Palm Glades Prep 43-30 and earn a much needed victory. Junior Quinn Pegg '26 added five three pointers and finished with a team high 16 points. The Raiders also received signifcant contributions from juniors Jack McCarron '26 and Matheus Dabus '26 who combined for seven rebounds, five steals, and five deflections. Raiders roll in final game of 2024
Juniors Olivia Geller '26 and Stella Colombo '26 led the way for the Raiders, combining for five goals and two assists as the Raiders cruised to 9-0 victory over Don Soffer High School to move to 7-3 on the season. Juniors Avery Almazan '26 and Jojo James '26 both added a goal of their own and freshman Natalia Gupta '28, and Reese Almazan '28 rounded out the scoring for the Raiders. From the opening whistle the Raiders dominated play scoing four goals in the first six minutes of action. Strong second half propels Raiders to victory
Senior Taylor Smith '25 converted on a pair of three point attempts late in the fourth quarter to lead the way as the Raiders erased a nine point deficit to defeat Calvary Christian 52-49 in a thrilling game. Sophomore Holly Clement '27 had her best game of the season with 14 points including two clutch free throws to give the Raiders the lead with under 30 seconds to go. Sophomore Luisa Duarte '27 provided the defensive intensity grabbing six rebounds and three steals in the win. Girls basketball earns road victory
Sophomore Holly Clement '27 led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists as the Raiders earned a hard fought road victory over Braddock High School. Senior Taylor Smith '25 had a season high 13 points on four made three pointers and five rebounds in the win. Freshman Nica Rosenberg '28 also reached double figures with 14 points and three steals. Defensively, the Raiders were led by senior Blake Langer '25 who dominated the glass with nine rebounds. Girls soccer advances to Palm League Semifinal
Junior Jojo James '26 led the way with a dominant performance scoring all three Raider goals in a 3-0 victory over Gulliver Prep in Palm League quarterfinal action. The Raiders received solid play across the board highlighted by freshman Lina Grunwald '28 and Andi Lamar '28. Goalkeeper Addison Pollock '25 earned the shutout with key saves to keep Gulliver off the scoreboard. With the victory the Raiders move to 5-2 on the season and will now turn their attention to the Palm League semifinal as they square off against Palmer Trinity in an away contest at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.Read More -
Raiders erase 14 point 4th quarter deficit to move to 3-1
Freshman Julian Silvetz '28 led the way with a team high 17 points including 10 in the fourth quarter as the Raiders overcame a 38-24 deficit to defeat Coral Spring Charter 46-42 in a thrilling game. Senior Connor Gumbs '25 started the comeback with a lay up and three pointer after forcing consecutive turnovers to get the Raiders back in striking distance with four minutes remaining in the game. Silvetz would then convert a three point play and junior Zach Schatzman '26 added a pair of free throws to bring the Raiders within two. Freshman Alijah Mourning '28 provided his best defense performance of the season with three blocks down the stretch and a pair of free throws to put the Raiders ahead with just under a minute to go. The Raiders would come up with crucial stops and junior Quinn Pegg '26 iced the game with two free throw makes with seconds remaining to give the Raiders a 46-42 victory and move to 3-1 on the season. Raider basketball moves to 1-1 on the season with home victory
Freshman Julian Silvetz '28 led the way with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals as the Raiders rolled to a 65-20 victory over Miami Seed School to earn their first victory of the season. Sophomore Isaac Weinberg '27 provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, and three rebounds. Following a tough defeat on Tuesday the Raiders came out strong from the opening tip with 12 straight points including a pair of three pointers from junior Quinn Pegg '26 and senior Connor Gumbs '25. From there the Raiders would cruise to victory and move to 1-1 on the season. Raiders earn hard fought 2-1 victory
Senior Luca Falero '25 led the way with two early goals as the Raiders withstood a late push from Riviera Prep to earn a 2-1 victory on their home turf. Senior goalkeeper Eduardo Michelsen '25 was outstanding with crucial saves in the second half. The Raiders received solid midfield play from senior Frankie Pines '25, and freshman Sebastian Daes '28 and Daniel Li '28 provided support defensively in their best game of the season. It was a critical victory for the Raiders who continue to improve with a young team. The team will get back on the practice field today as they turn their attention to Mitchell High School for a Friday night game under the lights of Robert E. Walker Field. Raider sailor earns fourth place in sailing national championship
Read MoreSebastian van de Kreeke '25 finished fourth at the 2024-25 Interscholastic Sailing Association Cressy Singlehanded National Championship Nov. 16-17 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The only RE student to qualify for the prestigious event, van de Kreeke faced 11 sailors from seven regional districts across the nation. He earned a victory in the final of 14 races to clinch his fourth place overall. At the event, he was coached by his father, RE Hall of Fame sailor Michiel "Monkey" van de Kreeke '88. -
Swimmers knock down RE records during state meet
RE swimmers broke three school records at one of the most successful state championship meets in school history. Kiera Rampersad '25 set the record in the 100-meter butterfly with her second-place finish in 54.76 seconds, breaking a 10-year-old RE mark. Nohan Gomez '25 broke a five-year-old record in the boys' 100 fly, finishing in 50.94 on his way to eighth place overall. And the team of Lincoln Broad '26, Jay Holly '26, Ethan Sullivan '25 and Gomez posted a time of 1 minute, 28.80 seconds in the 200 freestyle relay on their way to 15th place, breaking a school mark set in 2016. The athletes competed at the Nov. 15 Class 1A Florida High School Athletic Association state meet under RE coach Franz Huggins, also head coach of the RE Aquatic Club.Read More -
Girls golf completes remarkable season at state championships
Read MoreThe Raider girls golf team capped off an incredible season at the state championships held at the very difficult Mission Inn & Resort El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the hills, Florida. Eighth grader Esha Nagalla '29 led the Raiders with scores of 79 and 75, followed by senior Kate Khvorostiana '25 who finished her terrific career as a Raider in style. Freshman Ella Wester '28, sophomore Lillian Liu '27, and junior Abby Pollak '26 rounded out the scoring for the team. Following multiple years of struggling to field a team, the Raiders surprised everyone and completed a remarkable turnaround earning a state bid for the first time in seven years. Congratulations to all student athletes, coaches and supporters on a wonderful season.

Sports Performance at Ransom Everglades
Ransom Everglades offers its students a sports performance training program designed to meet the year-round strength and conditioning needs of student-athletes while enhancing physical education offerings for all students. Our training staff assists students with sport-specific training regimens designed to develop physical competence, improve athletic performance and prevent injury, and they work closely with each of RE's coaches to integrate the performance training into their weekly practice plans and optional off-season workouts. Those principals are incorporated into the middle school physical education program. At the high school, the goal is to achieve physical competence, improve athletic performance and decrease the risk of injury.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it." The school provides rigorous college preparation that promotes the student's sense of identity, community, personal integrity and values for a productive and satisfying life, and prepares the student to lead and to contribute to society.
