Fall and winter sports update

We have set season start dates for all of our middle and upper school fall sports teams, and are in the process of scheduling competitions against other schools. We are very excited about providing these opportunities; of course, it will not be possible to precisely replicate a traditional sports season. Among the changes RE families can expect:

  • We may limit spectators at competitions and provide livestream access when feasible.
  • We may seek assistance from parents in providing transportation to and from competitions to ensure social distancing.
  • We will put in place enhanced safety measures and equipment adjustments as appropriate for each sport.
  • We will adjust practice schedules for each sport to ensure the safety of our students and coaches. Student-athletes might practice fewer than five days a week. Some practices might take place in the mornings, evenings or on weekends.

Upper School Sports

At the upper school, we are members of  the Florida High School Athletics Association for all sports – except sailing and crew – so we are bound by the state's traditional sport calendar. We will opt in for FHSAA district, regional and state playoff opportunities in all sports except football. RE football will continue to compete in an independent conference, and sailing and crew will resume in October, with hopes of local competition this winter as suggested by their sports’ governing bodies.

Individual fall sport practice start dates are listed below. Coaches will share additional details about the team schedules when they are available on myCOMPASS and in separate communications to their student-athletes.

September 8: Boys’ golf

September 14: Cross country, swimming, girls’ volleyball, girls’ golf

September 28: Football

October 12: Crew and sailing

If you are planning to try out for or participate on an upper school team this fall, please check myCOMPASS and confirm that your name is listed on the roster for that team. If your name is not on the roster, please contact me right away so we can add your name.

Middle School Sports

We will continue as a member of the South Florida Middle School Conference and participate in available postseason opportunities. Please note that the SFMSC has moved girls’ volleyball to the spring and cross country to winter for 2020-21.

Middle school fall sports will commence formal practices on Monday, October 12.

Sailing and crew will begin training on Monday, October 19, and continue with their traditional winter and spring programming.

On Monday, September 14, Ransom Everglades will begin offering optional small-group training and skill sessions for middle school, fall sport student-athletes. Registration will be required and space may be limited.

Students interested in competing in a fall or winter sport at the middle school must fill out this form, indicating the sport or sports in which they have interest. We will follow up with information on how to register for the small-group sessions, and will offer sign-up opportunities for spring sports at a later date.

All of our plans are contingent on continuing downward trends related to COVID-19. The health and safety of our community remain our highest priorities, and we will continue to monitor the virus.
