Middle schoolers recycle candy wrappers

Ransom Everglades middle school students recycled 9,644 candy wrappers, part of the school's commitment to environmental sustainability and its participation in the "Unwrap the Waves" competition promoted by the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Fla. RE's efforts, facilitated by Director of Environmental Sustainability Kelly Jackson, contributed to a huge South Florida drive to keep candy wrappers out of landfills. A total of 91 schools and 64,408 students participated in "Unwrap the Waves," recycling 730,595 candy wrappers.
Faculty member Bridgette Laskey's advisory won the RE competition by bringing in 870 wrappers; Meghan Kramer's turned in 728; and the advisory of Cameron Ferguson/Maria Eugenia Abrante scored 725.
