Upper school students elected James Brown-Urmeneta '24 as the new president of the Student Government Association, choosing him to replace departing president Loriz Arencibia '23. A member of the crew team, Portuguese and Lusophone Club and Health Information Project (HIP), Brown-Urmeneta promised classmates he would be an active listener, extension of their ideas and bridge between students and the school administration.
"We, the Ransom Everglades community, have been gaining momentum," Brown-Urmeneta said. "Like my physics teacher says, when something has been building momentum, it’s going to be hard to stop, and I want to be the catalyst for our growth. My goal is to enhance student involvement and engagement with the school in order to create a compassionate community that truly aims to be part of Paul Ransom's 'third class.'"
Brown-Urmeneta, also a teaching assistant at Breakthrough Miami, will be joined on the SGA by nine other rising seniors and an additional 25 students from the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. They will work with the assistance of advisor Jorge Guzman.
