RE bolsters security on both campuses with new hires

Email from Chief Operating Officer and Interim Head of the Upper School David Clark '86 to the RE community on December 15, 2023

We are reaching the close of what has been a terrific semester on both of our campuses. As our students prepare for their assessments and look forward to the winter break, I write to share an encouraging  update on campus security. I am pleased to announce the addition of Assistant Director of Security at the Middle School Ryan Caporelli ’13 and Assistant Director of Security at the Upper School Desiree De Armas to our security team. This experienced duo joins Director of Security Rob DePriest ’86, ensuring that both of our campuses are covered with full-time security professionals of the highest caliber working alongside City of Miami police. They replace assistant security director Jose Beiro, who recently departed.
Mr. Caporelli may be a familiar name to some of you; he is a proud associate alumni. He arrived in early November from the Miami Marlins where he served for two years as Facilities and Security Project Manager. He brings extensive experience in crisis management, private security oversight, traffic control, threat analysis and law enforcement. A former member of the United States Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., Mr. Caporelli received a Congressional Gold Medal for his actions to defend the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University. His primary focus at Ransom Everglades is the day-to-day safety and security at the middle school, with cross-training to assist at the upper school as needed.

Ms. De Armas joined us in mid-November from the City of Doral Police Department, where she worked for 15 years as an officer, instructor and supervisor. She is highly skilled in emergency preparedness and crisis intervention, and is a certified police instructor in areas including First Aid/CPR/AED and Active Shooter Response. In 2015, she was recognized with the Life Saving Award from the City of Doral Police Department. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. Ms. De Armas has been focusing on the day-to-day safety and security at the upper school, with cross-training to assist as needed at the middle school.

Mr. DePriest continues to direct and oversee our security efforts on both campuses.

As you all know, the safety of our students is our highest priority. We are grateful to our school leaders and board of trustees for committing the resources and personnel to support us in this endeavor.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Mr. Caporelli and Ms. De Armas to our security team.

Sincerely,

David E. Clark ’86
Chief Operating Officer and
Interim Head of the Upper School
