Substance abuse specialist speaks to RE students and parents

As part of Ransom Everglades' commitment to student health and wellness, the school invited a psychotherapist and addiction specialist, Ana M. Moreno, to provide informative seminars on chemical dependency, brain development and commonly abused substances to students and parents. Moreno addressed upper school students on Oct. 13 during an assembly at the Lewis Family Auditorium, and parents that evening at the same venue.
During the morning assembly, Moreno stepped down from the stage to get closer to students. In her presentation entitled "What You Need to Know," she offered guidance backed by scientific research, data on substance use and abuse, and anecdotes of real-world tragedies involving the use of substances.

"That can happen to anybody," she told students after sharing two stories. "It's important for you to know and be aware and be very cognizant of the decisions you make, and the people you have around you."

Director of Counseling Isis Perez-Gonzalez introduced Moreno, who offers in-person and online therapy in South Miami and has worked in the field of mental health since 2002.
