Speech and debate students continue stellar season with top finishes in Gainesville

Claudia Colina '25 earned two first-place trophies at the 41st Annual Florida Blue Key Speech and Debate Tournament at the University of Florida in Gainesville to lead a host of top finishes for Ransom Everglades. Colina and Lucas Sanchez '27 earned first in Duo Interpretation, and Colina also topped the field in Program Oral Interpretation. The national event Nov. 1-3 attracted nearly 800 competitors.

Caleb Gold '27 and Giacomo Chinoy '27 won Novice Public Forum Debate, and Gustavo do Valle '26 earned second place in Dramatic Interpretation and third in Humorous Interpretation. Miranda Silva '26 and Daniela Garcia '26 won third place in Duo Interpretation; Jackson Berlin '27 claimed fourth place in Informative Speaking; and Lilah Murphy '27 earned sixth place in Dramatic Interpretation. Four RE students achieved semifinal finishes: Carlos del Canal Fernandez '25 in Informative Speaking, Veronica Luzine '26 in Student Congress, Sanchez  in Dramatic Interpretation and Silva in Humorous Interpretation.

RE's students competed under coaches Kate Hamm and Justinmar Perez. Team members also achieved great results at the Nova Titan High School Invitational in Davie in October.

Colina and Sanchez won first place in Duo Interpretation and Colina also won first in Program Oral Interpretation; Nora Brue '25, Mya Bouyoucef '25 and T.J. Malone '25 finished first in World Schools Debate; do Valle scored second place in Humorous Interpretation; Gold and James Pfleger '27 won third place in JV Public Forum Debate; Danny Mendelson '25 and Max Salomon '25 scored a third place in Varsity Public Forum; Hannah Risin '25 won third in Extemporaneous Speaking; Silva finished fifth in Humorous Interpretation; Wes Griffin '26 finished fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking; Murphy finished sixth in Dramatic Interpretation; and Chloe Zaldivar '25 finished eighth in Congressional Debate.
