Middle school students qualify for the national history bee

​A host of RE middle schoolers are heading to the national championships for history or geography after excelling at a qualification meet in Boca Raton on January 26. Noah Veras '29, Julian Jelke '29, Evan Powe '29, Sophia Sachar '29, Ella Griffin '29, Daniel Coscarelli '29 and Axel Fraser '31 qualified for the 2025 International Academic Competitions Middle & Elementary School National Championships in Orlando in May. Powe, Veras, Axel Sirinyan '29, Coscarelli, Jelke and Fraser qualified for the National Geography Bee that is also in Orlando in May.
Seven of the RE students, all of whom are coached by faculty member Joe Mauro, also claimed individual awards at the event, the South Florida Regionals of the National History Bee and Geography Bee at Somerset Academy.

In the eighth-grade history bee, Veras placing first and Jelke second, and Fraser claimed third in the sixth-grade event. ​In the geography bee for eighth grade, Powe finished first; Veras, second; and Sirinyan, third. Fraser won the sixth-grade title.
