RE's middle school math team caps stellar season with ninth at states

Ransom Everglades’ middle school math team finished ninth overall and RE coach Jessica Merrick earned Florida Coach of the Year honors to conclude a stellar season at the 2025 Florida Mathcounts State Competition in Daytona Beach. Ivy Chen '30 led RE's all-girls team at the March 14 event with an 11th-place finish out of the 221 math stand-outs from around the state who competed, and she was joined on RE’s medal-winning team by Sofiya Dewan '29, Maya Lee-Schonfeld '30 and Esha Nagalla '29. The team, which won the regional Mathcounts competition to advance to the state meet, also featured coach Ashley Ernst and alternate Trevor Thomas '29, both of whom supported the team’s performance at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
