RE robotics teams impress at VEX

A team of seniors – Shovan Bhatia, Evan Azari, Ganesh Gajavelli, Harry Sanchez, Jorge Zreik, Scott Kim and Jordan Wong – advanced to the finals of the VEX Robotics Competition that brought 56 teams from 19 schools to the Anderson gymnasium on Oct. 21. Those seniors, the Hurricanes, came within two match victories of claiming a major award at the state qualifying meet.
Ransom Everglades also got a top performance from a team of freshmen, Max Swietelsky, Jonah Bennett and Jordan Hoffman. The Disciples of Hopper team advanced to the quarterfinal round and nearly broke the top 25, leading many young RE students who participated in the event. Ransom Everglades also entered two other teams of freshmen and juniors.

Robotics coach Bob DuBard, who organized the event, credited the team's seniors with mentoring the younger members of the squad. "This year's seniors have been incredible leaders with our younger teams," he said. "They have provided terrific support and assistance."

More than a dozen RE faculty, staff and students assisted at the event.
