Two students reel in winners at REEF

Two RE students – Koby Krinsky '19 and Max Tauber '19 – scored the largest haul at the Seventh Annual Ransom Everglades Epic Fishing (REEF) Tournament. Krinsky netted the heaviest dolphin, 36.8 pounds; Tauber reeled in a 37.4-pound kingfish to win the non-dolphin category; and the pair's – boat – the Alora – tallied the winning total for three heaviest dolphin (45 pounds).

Krinsky and Tauber, a REEF student chair, were joined on the Alora by first mate Joey Zelenka and RE father Irwin Tauber. Paulina Johansson '15 swept the top five catches in the lady angler category, and Tyler Grossfeld, son of REEF Committee Chair Kevin Grossfeld '95, reeled in a 15.8-pound dolphin to win the junior angler category. Vladimir Ponomarenko '25 snagged a 16.8-pound tuna for third place in the non-dolphin category.

Jeffrey Miller '79 sponsored a boat to take out Breakthrough Miami students. Breakthrough Miami is a non-profit educational program founded by two RE alumni that provides educational opportunities to deserving and talented students.

This year's REEF tournament, which supports RE's waterfront and Breakthrough Miami, went on without the customary pomp and circumstance because of repairs underway to the Robert E. Walker Field and the waterfront area. But even without the usual games on the field, buffet of food and the always-anticipated Astrid Dalins cake, participants still had a great time. Elana Oberstein-Harris '93, Peter Diamond '92, Pearce Klevan '97, Kevin Grossfield and student chairs Danielle Pena '18, Ben Rosenthal '18 and Max Tauber ensured the event's success.
