ALEKS Math Review (grades 6-9)

Virtual
Schedule: June 10-August 9, flexible times. This course is offered via remote learning only.
(No summer program on June 19, July 4 and 5, in observance of Juneteenth and Independence Day)
Grade Level: rising 6-9

Preparing for Math Foundations will be completed on the ALEKS computer system with the support of a Ransom Everglades Middle School math teacher. There will be optional weekly check-ins via Google Meet or Zoom, and the course should take about seven hours to complete. The summer review includes a review of the fundamentals of the student’s current grade math, covering topics that utilize the mechanics of mathematics in order to develop and hone problem-solving skills. Real-life applications are stressed whenever possible. These problem-solving skills play a vital role in future math courses and in all subject areas.

For rising sixth graders, the topics include place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and word-problem applications.

For rising seventh graders, the topics include ordering and estimating real numbers, exponents, introduction to one-step equations, operations with complex fractions, and word-problem applications.

For rising eighth graders, the topics include arithmetic readiness, linear equations, inequalities, functions, and word-problem applications.

For rising ninth graders, the topics include radicals, Pythagorean Theorem, linear equations, inequalities, polynomials, factoring, and word-problem applications.

All students practice solving different mathematics problems and hone the skills needed for success in future math courses.
