Students travel to Netherlands for Model UN conference

RE's Model United Nations club participated in The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) Conference January 27-31 in the Netherlands. With over 3,500 student delegates from schools from across the world in attendance, RE's 19 student participants represented a number of delegations: Namibia, UN Women to the General Assembly, Security Council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and several other committees. Ransom Everglades students lobbied proposals and networked with students from several countries to craft solutions to the world's issues through dialogue, consensus building and simulated diplomacy.
The conference, in its 57th year, was held at the World Forum in the Hague. RE students and faculty members Stephen Allen and Corinne Rhyner engaged in several cultural emersion activities including a walking tour of the Hague’s city center, which is a characterful blend of historic Dutch and contemporary international architecture. After the conference, the RE contingent spent a day in Amsterdam and visited Anne Frank’s house, a very moving and poignant experience for the students. The group experienced a guided canal tour and saw many famous artworks in the Rijks Museum. The RE MUN team immersed itself not only in the conference but also the cultural essence of the Netherlands, serving as ambassadors for RE with every step and interaction.
