Lunar New Year celebrations brighten RE campuses

Ransom Everglades celebrated the Lunar New Year and Year of the Snake with a vibrant showcase of music and dance at the upper school and various cultural activities at the middle school. Members of the Chinese Culture Club, several Chinese classes and the Chinese Parents Association worked together on the Feb. 5 centerpiece event at the upper school, which offered a colorful costumes, captivating entertainment, historical background and delicious cuisine. Chinese Culture Club officers Gavin Heller '25, Minnie Zhou '26, Adaya Yang '25 and Charlotte Gould '26 served as emcees along with Sindhu Talluri ’25, a member of the AP Chinese class. Chinese Parents Association Chairs Shanjie Li and Yun Zhou provided invaluable support along with RE world languages teacher Xiaohong Teng.

"For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Lunar New Year, it is a traditional holiday that celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of the spring, bidding farewell to the past and celebrating new beginnings," Yang told upper school students from the Lewis Family Auditorium stage, and Zhou added: "We are overjoyed to have you all here with us to welcome another amazing year, 2025, the Year of the Snake."

Henry Berler ’25 and Siena Claure '26 performed an ode to Caishen, the God of Wealth; Chinese 5 students performed the fan dance, symbolizing elegance and harmony and welcoming prosperity into the new year. Nohan Gomez ’25, Simone Carrasco '27 and Jesse Tao '27 performed a Kung Fu Fighting routine; and Jacci Zhang ’27 (dance), Siena Bautista ’27 (violin) and Samuel Church Schulman ’27 (cello) shared their talents with featured roles or solos.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
