One Book One Day One School returns for The Storm Runner and author J.C. Cervantes

Students at Ransom Everglades welcomed a bestselling author to the middle school and spent a school day immersed in activities related to her book during the annual One Book One Day One School (OBODOS) event on April 4. Students read The Storm Runner in advance of OBODOS, then enjoyed a book signing and assembly with author J.C. Cervantes along with a host of activities connected to themes in the book.
Students gathered under an outdoor tent for Mayan temple building, which involved erecting temples out of cardboard boxes and trying to withstand water balloon attacks from neighboring forces. They enjoyed a team-oriented obstacle course and team-building activities on the field, and a Mayan culture demonstration in Swenson Hall. They made Mayan art and jewelry in the library, played the traditional Mayan game of Pok-a-tok, as enjoyed escape rooms at other sites on campus.

The day's highlight was the one-on-one session in the auditorium, where students heard directly from Cervantes and had the opportunity for questions.

The event was organized by librarian Meghan Kramer.
