RE student and coach help the Team Florida math team to fifth place in nation

Putting a memorable stamp on an incredible season for the Ransom Everglades middle school math team, Daniel Li '28 and math team coach Jessica Merrick helped Florida's state math team to a fifth place in the 2024 RTX MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Washington, D.C., as various RE math team members collected other end-of-year recognitions.
In Washington on May 12-13, Merrick served as coach of Team Florida, which included Li and three students from Florida schools (including the individual national champion). Florida competed against 55 entrants from around the United States. Li and Merrick, the first RE representatives to attend the prestigious national competition, earned the opportunity after RE's middle school team placed second at the Florida state championship in March, and Li finished third individually. (This video features the announcement of the individual national champion from Team Florida, Ben Jiang, with Merrick.)

Also, in the semi-annual problem-solving national math competition for middle school students, Noetic Learning Math Contest, middle school math team members Daniel Li, Sofiya Dewan '29, Joshua Khohayting '28 and Alex Tevelow '28 received perfect scores. Those four were joined by Trevor Thomas '29,  Jeffrey Tong '28 and Maxie Wu '28 on the National Honor Roll while Esha Nagalla '29, Ria Bhandari '28, Matias Lopez-Ona '28, Andrea Medina '28 and Parker Schimel '28 earned honorable mention.

In other news, Maxie Wu '28 and Minnie Zhou '26 won Young Women in Mathematics Certificates of Excellence for their performances on the American Mathematics Competitions 8 and 10 exams, respectively.
