Eighth grader wins Middle School Spelling Bee

Lily Kingdon '29 correctly spelled fastigium to win the Middle School Spelling Bee on October 25, edging second-place finisher Nitin Seshadri '31 during a competition that included six finalists. The pair successfully handled lamasery, paradiddle and unciferous before Seshadri got tripped up by asphodel. With the victory, Kingdon advanced to the 85th annual Miami Herald Spelling Bee in February.
Aziz Apara '29, Ben Brandrick-Morris '29, Shivam Gupta '31 and Alyssa Wang '30 were the other finalists. The students survived 21 rounds of competition over two days under the direction of RE faculty members Jody Salzinger and Flavia Araripe. The event began with 30 participants.
