Two RE artists win national recognition in 2024 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
Renee Fonseca '25 and Eve Zhou '24 received national gold medals in the 2024 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards annual competition that attracted more than 340,000 submissions from around the nation. Fonseca was recognized for her ceramic piece, "Falling Apart at the Seams," and Zhou won for "Miracles" in the Personal Essay/Memoir category. Both received Gold Keys in the regional competition and are eligible for national exhibitions, publication and scholarship opportunities.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the nonprofit organization that presents the Scholastic Awards, presented national awards to just eight percent of all submissions, evaluating the works on the basis of originality, skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Fourteen RE students received the prestigious Gold Keys last spring in the competition that culminated in the national recognition announced in June.
Since 1923, the awards competition has celebrated teen artists and writers from across the country, including former national winners Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates and Andy Warhol.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
