RE students excel in 2024 middle school national championships for the history bee and bowl

Ransom Everglades' middle school academic team "A"  – Jaz Puri '28, Jack Gonzalez '28, Harlan Hoenig '28 and Noah Veras '29 – finished sixth in the National History Bowl at the 2024 International Academic Competitions Middle and Elementary School National Championships in Orlando May 23-27 as a record number of RE students (20) and teams (four) participated under coach Joe Mauro. There were many notable finishes for Ransom Everglades during the weekend of competitions and exams in history, science or geography.
There were nine other top-10 finishes for RE students, and Puri scored five of them in the eighth-grade division: Puri earned fourth in the Ancient History Exam, fifth in the Recent History Exam, eighth in the National History Bee and Historical Geography Exam, and ninth in the U.S. Military Exam. Iker Fierro '28 finished 10th in the U.S. Geography Championship for eighth grade; Rohan Harihara '30 finished first in the Ornithology Exam for sixth grade; Veras finished sixth in the Recent History Exam for seventh grade; and Ethan Siesel '30 finished sixth in the Black American History Exam for sixth grade.

Many RE students (see the participant list below) qualified for international events and scored top-20 finishes.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it." The school provides rigorous college preparation that promotes the student's sense of identity, community, personal integrity and values for a productive and satisfying life, and prepares the student to lead and to contribute to society.
