MD1 vs Westminster Christian

The boys made their season debut with a convincing 5-1 defeat of Westminster at scenic Robert E. Walker Field.

Ransom Everglades dominated possession. The ball rarely made its way into the Raiders’ half of the field. On the three occasions when Westminster did advance the ball into the final third, Jack Milota made sterling saves.

Goal contributions came from Nico Vanegas, George Lamb, Antonio Alvarez, Sebi Azar, and Martin Gras. All five shots were well-struck efforts from some distance. Alvarez managed his on the volley. Later in the contest, the Raiders hit the bar three times, including a blistering effort from Captain Franco Gonzalez. The Raiders served notice that they intend to let the ball fly.

Ransom Everglades did concede a goal late. Westminster, to their credit, headed home a cross from a set-piece. This chance was conceded on what was an excellent defensive play from Loren Jayanetti, who shouldered his opponent off the ball in a fair and careful fashion. This was perhaps the only occasion on which the otherwise astute and dignified referee missed a call.

On the day, Rohan Harihara anchored a capable back line that snuffed out nearly every Westminster counter attack and limited chances. The Raiders will look to keep an even cleaner sheet on Thursday, November 14th, against the Cushman School.
